We do not recommend the trauma associated with needing the services of ServiceMaster but we certainly are happy with the expertise provided. Our story begins with the spectacular death of our dishwasher. Fortunately we were home during the dishwashing cycle when the control panel burst into flames and dropped burning plastic onto the linoleum. Our handy ABC-type fire extinguisher put out the flames in the dishwasher and on the floor. However, we now had the stench of burned plastic, a burn in our flooring and the ABC powder in every nook and cranny of our kitchen. What to do? After reducing the stench slightly by operating the kitchen exhaust fan and opening the windows we cleaned up the worst of the ABC powder so that we would not have it as a condiment with our next meal. We contacted our home insurance provider (TD Insurance) and they quickly brought in ServiceMaster. We had seen the bright yellow trucks around the city, but not being in the habit of trying to burn down our house, we never considered the need for the service. We do now. ServiceMaster representative Justin came and laid out what they could do. A new dishwasher and the deductable of the policy was our responsibility. After that, ServiceMaster could take over proceeding with the restoration. We had the option to bring in contractors of our own. It was a no-brainer! We had no desire to scurry around finding contractors that may or may not appear as promised. ServiceMaster was it. The next day a ServiceMaster crew was in to thoroughly clean the walls, ceiling, floor and cupboard exteriors. While that crew was cleaning, Tyler of Custom Floors was moving around with his magic laser tape measure to determine the area to be covered with new linoleum. The next day, Kevin and his associate from BioSweep Edmonton came by to advise us on how they were going to remove the stench of burnt plastic but still keep our potted plants (and us) alive. They needed 24 hours to cocoon our plants and perform their process. We needed an overnight 'staycation'. We were back the next day after an enjoyable night at a local hotel (courtesy of the insurance company). The burnt plastic stench was replaced by a more pleasant odour that dissipated in a couple of days. A couple of the plants lost a leaf or two but look even healthier now! A couple of days later we received a call from Tyler to come and pick out the replacement linoleum pattern. We did so and about ten days later Ivan and his crew arrived to remove the baseboards and the old linoleum. Ivan recognized that the wooden baseboards were good quality and needed to be saved so his crew was extra careful in their removal. The rubber / plastic baseboards around the island and under the cupboards could go. Since the crew needed to reach the kitchen through the living and dining rooms Ivan laid down a 1 m wide path of plastic to protect the carpet and hardwood. This material also covered the temporary storage area for the wooden baseboards in the living room. Once the baseboards were removed it was time to move the refrigerator and kitchen table. Using two inflatable feet and a device similar to a portable leaf blower the crew skied the refrigerator into the dining room, plugged it in and oriented it so we could access it for our meals. The kitchen table was manhandled into the dining room also. By mid afternoon the linoleum was bagged and gone. Shortly after, the call came from Tyler that installation of the linoleum would commence the next day. At the end of the day, Bobby of Rahall Mechanical came to temporarily uninstall the new dishwasher we had purchased. The next morning Mickey and his crew arrived with the linoleum. After preparing the subfloor, where the former rubber / plastic baseboards were located Mickey used the linoleum to fashion 'flash coving' that leaves no joint with the floor covering to catch debris or fluids. After that, the rest of the linoleum was laid and all joints sealed. A final cleanup and the crew was gone. Next day was Friday. Would we have our house back for the weekend? Ivan arrived about 08:30 Friday morning and practiced his magic on the baseboards. He is a real ‘artiste’. One would never know that the baseboards came off a few days earlier and were reapplied. Ivan repainted the boards that needed to be repainted, reinstalled, caulked and touched up again. After he finished, the entire plastic path and baseboard storage area disappeared with him. Later, Bobby from Rahall Mechanical arrived and in his calm, meticulous and gentle manner reinstalled and double / triple checked his installation of the dishwasher. Georgie and I now have all of our ‘stuff’ back in its appointed place and we are pleased with our ‘new’ kitchen. We also appreciate the timely and professional work provided by ServiceMaster and all of the subcontractors. Finally to end this epistle, at the end of each day the workplace was left clean and tidy. A real bonus!

I suggest that you resubmit this survey in about three weeks. We have been cleaned and fumigated by very courteous, friendly and professional people and we are just waiting for the flooring folks. We picked out the linoleum pattern over a week ago and expect to hear from them shortly. I will be happy to give a full report on your restoration services when they are finished.
